Early Life

Quinton de Kock was raised in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. He developed an aptitude for sports from an early age. Remarkably, his first sports passion was baseball and he even envisioned relocating to the U.S. to play professionally. His father, however, prevailed upon him to make the switch to cricket, which would prove to be a turning point in the history of South African cricket. Jimmy Cook, a former South Africa opener and esteemed youth coach, spotted his rare gift when he joined a training camp at age 11. Stephen Cook said that no other child of the same age learns to pick up length in such a short time or is as naturally talented. In January 2012, De Kock led the South African U19 team as well, and scored with the best average in the 2012 ICC Under-19 World Cup in Australia.

Domestic Career

Quinton de Kock made his debut for the South African domestic side Gauteng at the age of just 16 in 2009. He was a domestic cricketer for the Gauteng Province and Highveld Lions before joining the Titans in 2015, where he was seen as a fearsome hitter and a sharp fielder and had an instant impact on the national selectors.

International Debut & T20I Career

De Kock made his T20 debut for South Africa on 21st December 2012 when he played against New Zealand. First impression is the last impression as he impressed with his debut with an unbeaten 28 from 23 balls from the chase, plus two catches behind the stumps. ODI Career

De Kock made his ODI debut against New Zealand at Boland Park Stadium in Paarl on 19 January 2013, where he was apparently being nurtured under the wings of stalwart wicketkeeper-batsman Mark Boucher ahead of the series. De Kock played his first IPL in 2013 for Sunrisers Hyderabad, but his performance was underwhelming with an average of only 6 runs per match in the three games he played. Delhi Daredevils picked him up in 2014 for ₹3.5 crore and here, he made his debut in 2016, finishing with 445 runs, including a score of 108. He built his IPL legacy with Mumbai Indians, scoring over 500 runs in consecutive seasons to help the team win back-to-back titles in 2019 and 2020. He scored an unbeaten 140 off 70 balls in a record 210-run opening stand with KL Rahul against Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2022, playing for Lucknow Super Giants. After representing Kolkata Knight Riders in 2025, Mumbai Indians reunited with him in IPL 2026, picking him up for just ₹1 crore at the auction.

T20 Franchise Career (Beyond IPL)

Quinton de Kock has made himself one of the world’s most coveted T20 franchise players outside the IPL.
