Nehal started his career by playing for the Punjab Under-16 and Under-19 teams in tournaments like the Vijay Merchant Trophy and Cooch Behar Trophy from 2015 to 2018, where he managed to score a total of 529 runs in five matches of the 2017–18 season. He then went on to represent India U-19 and really made himself at home in the senior level.

In April 2022 he scored 578 runs during semi-final of the Inter-District U-23 Cricket Championship, breaking Brian Lara’s record for highest score in an innings in a four-day competition.
